Malta Holidays Concern for missing flight
Alarm bells are ringing on the holiday island of Malta after what appears to be a canceled flight on 26 December.
The flight operator, well known and popular airline Ryanair, claims no flight was planned, while a newspaper said there was a photograph showing an output table with 'cancel' button next to the flight number.
Malta's tourism industry lobbied for the low cost airlines to be allowed to operate on the island with the hope of slowing the recent decline in the number of visitors, and reached an agreement with Ryanair, with the inaugural flight from Luton in November.
With a projection of 80,000 to 100,000 additional tourists per year, the arrival of new flights to Malta has been very well received and seen by many as El Salvador and catering holiday with a bang for the property industry for sale to foreign buyers.
The existing companies, including the national airline Air Malta, have responded with offers of their own, and the price of flights to Malta has been significantly reduced in recent months.
However, it seems a flight canceled due to lack of passengers, has sounded alarm bells in the holiday island.
"The Malta hotels and holiday industry are expected for the year ahead with a sense of optimism," says a local travel guide, "Tourists are contributed by additional Ryanair is a major boost to the economy of the island. But if a flight was canceled just weeks after we launched the service only wait that is not a sign for the future, and provides arrival numbers have been vastly more dear. Hopefully it was not a regular flight to be canceled everywhere.
Holiday Season
"There is a possibility," the guide continues, 'That the introduction of low cost airlines flying to Malta, only delay the long-term decline of the tourism industry of the island. Unless money is spent on infrastructure and improve the environment for tourists in general, there is a danger that a large number of visitors will once. If there is one lesson learned in Malta that the government and its agencies have not able to grasp is that sustainable tourism is built on repeat visitors. At the moment a lot of visitors from the UK see Malta as a unique journey.
In addition to Ryanair, easyJet also was expected to start services to Malta, but recent reports that talks have failed to reach an agreement. But brighter news has come from the island's flag carrier Air Malta.
Just as at one stage selling two tickets a minute in a recent promotion the airline is starting a new service from Liverpool in April.
The housing market also kept a close eye on tourist numbers now that New flights have been given the green light. If the number of visitors fall in the medium term could be good news for locals looking to buy your first property.
It has been some discontent on the island about the rising prices of goods in Malta, and with less overseas buyers the possibility of falling prices and more islanders be able to get on the property ladder could be good news, as today's tourist is often tomorrow's property buyer.
But now that companies Low cost airlines offering flights to Malta, this could help the Malta hotels and holiday market as more people consider three four breaks a day Instead of the traditional week or fortnight, bringing the total number of visitors, especially if Air Malta and the low cost airlines to reduce the cost of flights to Malta to levels observed in the Spanish islands.
Malta has seen most of its visitors from the UK, but this may be changing to a more mixed diverse in the coming years.
Last year saw a record number of visitors from Italy, and increased consultations have been received at estate agents throughout the island of Scandanvia, Holland, France and Belgium, helping to increase demand for Malta properties.
