Many people, 31,000 on Saturday and another 27,000 on Sunday, were stranded by cancellations of trains.

The continuing bad weather has caused the flight to be canceled from many UK airports. Forecasters have warned of further travel disruption as snow is expected this week and holidays Christmas. Police authorities in Scotland have advised people to stay home unless their journeys are absolutely essential.
